A life of faith

Nikephoros and the priest Sapricius had been close friends before a quarrel divided them. Recognizing his wrongdoing, Nikephoros repeatedly sought forgiveness through friends and in person. During persecution he urged Sapricius to remain faithful. When Sapricius abandoned his confession, Nikephoros openly declared his own Christian faith and was executed.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Nikephoros invites reflection on taking the first step toward reconciliation. A sincere request for forgiveness does not require you to control another person’s response.
