A life of faith

Niketas grew up among Christians in the Gothic lands north of the Danube. He was baptized by Theophilus, bishop of Gothia. During persecution under Athanaric, Niketas secretly sheltered Christians, fed people in need and encouraged fellow believers. When the king learned of his work, Niketas was arrested and tortured. He refused to abandon Christ and was burned to death. A man named Marian later took his body to Mopsuestia in Cilicia.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
