Saint Nikon of Sicily
Bishop and martyr
Naples, Ganos and Sicily
Feast day: March 23

A life of faith
Nikon grew up in Naples and served as a soldier. After turning to Christian faith, he received baptism and entered monastic life near the Sea of Marmara. He later became a bishop and moved with disciples to Sicily during persecution. The calendar remembers his refusal to renounce Christ and his martyrdom with the community.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
