A life of faith

Non is venerated as the mother of David of Wales. Medieval tradition remembers her as a nun and relates that David was conceived after a powerful man assaulted her. A chapel near St Davids marks the place traditionally associated with his birth. Her memory also survives at Altarnun in Cornwall and Dirinon in Brittany, where a different local account connects her with a religious community. These traditions preserve her place among the Celtic saints without providing a certain chronology of her life.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Someone who has suffered violence deserves safety, belief and support. Their worth does not depend on how quickly they recover or whether they can speak about what happened.
