Saint Nymphodora of Bithynia
Martyr
Bithynia
Feast day: September 10

A life of faith
Nymphodora and her sisters Menodora and Metrodora lived in solitude, fasting and prayer in Bithynia. During the persecution, governor Fronto ordered them to sacrifice to the gods. The sisters refused. After Menodora’s death, the governor used her body to frighten the surviving sisters into renouncing Christianity. They remained faithful. All three suffered martyrdom.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
The sisters recall the support of a shared life of prayer when faith is put under pressure.
