Saint Olympias of Fărcașa
Righteous Mother
Fărcașa, Neamț, Romania
Feast day: July 4

A life of faith
Olympias lived in Fărcașa and raised eight children with her husband Ion Tănase. One son became Petronius of Prodromos. The official life remembers her making clothes for her household, working the land and helping people in need. She also served as the village midwife. A remembered visit to a bedridden neighbor describes her bringing a gift and washing the woman’s feet. Prayer and church attendance accompanied her daily responsibilities. She died in 1967.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Olympias served through the work of a household, the care of neighbors and daily prayer. Consider a quiet act of service that would ease another person’s day.
