Saint Pamphilus of Caesarea
Scholar and martyr
Beirut and Caesarea in Palestine
Feast day: February 16

A life of faith
Pamphilus came from Beirut and devoted himself to the study of Scripture. In Caesarea of Palestine he established a library and a public school for learning the Scriptures. He gave his wealth to poor people and lived simply. During persecution under Diocletian he openly confessed Christ, was arrested and tortured, and was killed.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Pamphilus invites reflection on making learning accessible and sharing resources with people who need them.
