A life of faith

Papylus served as a deacon and was arrested with Bishop Carpus during persecution. The governor Valerius took their property and had the companions moved from Thyatira to Sardis and Pergamum. The calendar remembers their refusal to abandon Christian faith and their martyrdom.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Papylus recalls the bond between a church’s ministers when persecution reaches their community.
