A life of faith

Paraskevi, also known as Petka, was born into a devout family at Epivates. Hearing the Gospel’s call to follow Christ moved her to give clothing to people in need. After her parents died, she entered monastic life and spent years in the region of the Jordan. The traditional account describes her eventual return to her homeland, where she died quietly. Later recognition of her holiness led to the honoring and repeated translation of her relics through several Balkan centers. Her commemoration connects an attentive response to Scripture with generosity, prayer, and a legacy shared across national boundaries.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Read a Gospel passage slowly and choose one practical response. Let generosity remain suited to your responsibilities while making room for a neighbor’s real needs.
