Saint Parthenius, One of the Zograf Martyrs
Monk, ecclesiarch and martyr
Zograf Monastery, Mount Athos · 13th century
Feast day: October 10 (group); November 10 (death remembered in source)

A life of faith
Parthenius is named as the ecclesiarch among the Zograf martyrs. The received account says that he was brought down alive from the burning tower and told the returning monks what had happened. It remembers his death on November 10, thirty days later. The account gives 1276 and 1280 as alternative years for the group’s suffering. The group is commemorated on October 10.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
