Saint Paul the Apostle
Apostle, missionary & martyr
Tarsus & Mediterranean world · 1st century
Feast day: June 29

A life of faith
Paul first persecuted the Church under the name Saul. His encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus, followed by baptism through Ananias, redirected that zeal toward proclaiming the Gospel. He traveled widely, formed communities, worked through conflict, and endured imprisonment and hardship. His letters remain central to Christian Scripture and worship. The Church honors him with Peter among the foremost apostles and remembers his martyrdom in Rome. Paul’s life joins radical personal change to years of patient labor: a new beginning matters, but its meaning unfolds in the way someone continues to serve.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
