Saint Peter the Apostle
Apostle & martyr
Galilee & Rome · 1st century
Feast day: June 29

A life of faith
Peter appears in the Gospels as a disciple of strong devotion whose courage also failed. He confessed Jesus as the Christ, yet denied knowing him during the Passion. The risen Lord’s call to care for his flock restored Peter to service rather than leaving him defined by that denial. The Church honors him together with Paul among the foremost apostles and remembers his final witness as a martyr. Peter’s story speaks to people who carry responsibility while knowing their own weakness. Repentance can reopen the way to faithful service when failure seems to have closed it.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Bring a real failure into prayer without making that failure your entire identity. Consider one responsible act of repair, and seek guidance about returning to service with greater humility.
