A life of faith

Philaret lived with his family at Amnia in Paphlagonia. The calendar remembers him giving generously to people in need, even after invasions had reduced his wealth. When his granddaughter married into the imperial family, he continued his charitable life and refused the rank offered to him. He later retired to a monastery near Constantinople.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
