A life of faith

Philip was one of the seven deacons appointed in Jerusalem to care for the needs of widows, orphans, and people in poverty. After persecution scattered believers, he preached in Samaria. The account in Acts also remembers his meeting with an Ethiopian official on the road to Gaza, where he explained the Scriptures and baptized the traveler. Orthodox tradition honors his later ministry as a bishop in Tralles. Philip’s witness connects practical care with teaching: serving immediate human needs and helping someone understand the Gospel belong together in the life of the Church.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Listen for the question behind someone’s request for help. Offer practical care first, and share what you know patiently when the person welcomes a conversation about faith.
