Saint Philothea of Pasărea
Venerable Schema-nun and Mother
Bucharest and Pasărea
Feast day: April 12

A life of faith
Philothea was known as Floarea before entering monastic life. She and her husband Antonie raised four sons in Bucharest; one became Callinicus of Cernica. The official account remembers her teaching her children love for God, church and prayer. After widowhood she entered Pasărea with her son’s guidance and received the Great Schema. She died in 1833. Her fixed feast is April 12, although the reviewed 2026 calendar transferred her service to Easter Monday.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Philothea taught prayer in the ordinary life of her household. Consider how a simple, steady practice of prayer could become part of your own day.
