A life of faith
Polychronia was the mother of the Great Martyr George. The Jerusalem Patriarchate remembers her as a native of Lydda in Palestine. The received life published by Saint Andrew Greek Orthodox Church recounts that, after her husband’s death, she returned to her homeland and raised George in the Christian faith. Her remembrance connects the saint’s childhood with the religious life of his family.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Polychronia’s remembrance invites thoughtful attention to the example adults give to children.
