Saint Porphyrios of Kavsokalivia
Priest & spiritual elder
Mount Athos & Athens · 20th century
Feast day: December 2

A life of faith
Porphyrios entered life on Mount Athos while young, but illness later required him to leave the mountain. As a priest he served for many years at the Athens Polyclinic, bringing spiritual care into the daily suffering of a busy city. People also sought him as a confessor and guide. In later life he worked toward establishing a monastery at Milesi before returning to Athos, where he died in 1991. His example shows that an interrupted plan can still become a fruitful vocation. Monastic prayer and attention to sick people remained connected throughout his ministry.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Look for a way to bring patient attention into an ordinary place of work or care. An unexpected change in plans can still make room for faithful service.
