A life of faith

Raphael was a Serbian monk of Hilandar who was sent by its brotherhood to a monastery dependency in the area of present-day Zrenjanin. His received life places him in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. He continued his monastic duties there and devoted himself to prayer. He lived in a small reed hut, where he died. His grave became a place of local veneration.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Prayer can fit within ordinary work and responsibilities. Set aside a brief, manageable time for quiet reflection.
