Saint Sabel of Persia
Martyr
Persia and Chalcedon
Feast day: June 17

A life of faith
Sabel was one of three Christian brothers from Persia, together with Manuel and Ishmael. Their Christian mother raised them in the faith. The brothers served as soldiers and were sent on a peace embassy to Emperor Julian at Chalcedon. When their Christianity became known, they were tortured and beheaded. Christians later buried their bodies.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
