A life of faith

Sabiana guided the women’s monastery at Tadzrisi in the Georgian region of Samtskhe. The life of George of the Holy Mountain preserves a small but specific record of her ministry. When George’s parents entrusted their daughter Thekla to the monastery, Sabiana welcomed and raised her with a mother’s care. George himself later came as a young child, and Sabiana spent three years teaching him and guiding his spiritual formation. The OCA account acknowledges that further details have not survived. Her remembrance therefore rests on identifiable acts of education and nurture, rather than a reconstructed biography filling those silences.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Teach with patience and personal care. Give a younger learner room to grow, and remember that steady attention may have effects you will never fully see.
