Saint Salome the Myrrh-bearer
Myrrh-bearer
Galilee and Jerusalem
Feast day: August 3

A life of faith
Salome was the wife of Zebedee and the mother of the apostles James and John. The calendar recalls her request that her sons receive places of honor in Christ’s kingdom and her later understanding of his reply. She was present at Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. On the morning of the Resurrection, she went to the tomb with the other myrrh-bearing women.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
