A life of faith

Sampson studied medicine and used his family resources to care for sick people. His traditional life describes turning his estate into a clinic and arranging staff before giving the institution his wealth. In Constantinople he again treated people from a modest home and was ordained a priest. The account associates him with a hospice for travelers and destitute patients, later supported by imperial resources. The OCA source notes historical uncertainty about the precise chronology. His commemoration remembers professional skill directed toward hospitality and the creation of lasting support for people without security.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Consider how temporary help can become lasting support. Give time or resources to a trustworthy service that welcomes people who lack shelter or medical security.
