Saint Samuel, Catholicos of Georgia
Catholicos
Mtskheta and Kartli, Georgia
Feast day: November 30 / December 13

A life of faith
Samuel succeeded Peter as Catholicos of Georgia in the early sixth century. The Georgian life describes him as Byzantine in origin and says that he came to Kartli with Peter at King Vakhtang’s request. He served during the reigns of Dachi and Bakur. The account places the building of the church at Tskarostavi in Javakheti during his leadership.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
