Saint Sarah of Sketis
Desert Mother
Egypt · Late antiquity
Feast day: July 13

A life of faith
Sarah was a Desert Mother in Egypt whose sayings are preserved in early monastic tradition. She welcomed visitors from Sketis with food and taught about prayer, humility and giving to others. When two elders tried to belittle her, she answered firmly. The received account remembers her praying for strength during a long spiritual struggle. Her teaching emphasizes a heart at peace with God and other people.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Ask for strength to meet today’s difficulty. Offer another person a generous welcome without seeking praise.
