Saint Sava of Buzău
Martyr
The Buzău region north of the Danube
Feast day: April 12

A life of faith
Sava grew up among Christians in the Buzău region and learned under the priests Sansalas and Gutticas. He sang psalms in church, lived simply and maintained regular prayer. During persecution he urged Christians to remain faithful and refused food offered to idols. After arrest and torture, he was drowned in the river now called Buzău.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Sava’s remembrance invites reflection on making prayer a steady part of ordinary life and encouraging others through faithful conduct.
