Saint Sila of Sihăstria Putnei
Abbot
Sihăstria Putnei, Moldavia
Feast day: May 16

A life of faith
Sila entered monastic life as a young man and settled at Sihăstria Putnei. For more than thirty years, he helped provide for the community’s material needs. As abbot, he built a stone church, a refectory, and cells, while supporting the copying of manuscripts. The calendar remembers his spiritual guidance as well as his practical care for the monastery.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
