Saint Simeon of Dajbabe
Monk, teacher and spiritual counselor
Cetinje, Ostrog and Dajbabe, Montenegro
Feast day: April 1 (Gregorian); March 19 (Julian)

A life of faith
Simeon was born as Savo Popović in Cetinje in 1854. Raised by relatives, he studied at the monastery school and later in Kyiv, Paris and Geneva. He became a monk in Russia. Returning to Montenegro, he lived at Vranjina and Ostrog, where he taught in the monastic school. He later settled at Dajbabe and arranged and painted its cave church. His received life remembers his prayer, guidance to visitors and practical help for poor families. He died in 1941. The Serbian Church formally recognized him as a saint in 2010.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Patient counsel makes room for another person’s questions. Listen carefully before offering advice, and recognize when someone needs other support.
