A life of faith

Simeon and his friend John came from Emesa in Syria. After visiting Jerusalem, they entered monastic life near the Jordan under the abbot Nicon and lived in the wilderness. Simeon later returned to life among people. At Emesa he concealed his ascetic life beneath an appearance of folly and guided people toward repentance.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
