A life of faith

Simeon lived as a lay ascetic in the Ural region, associated with the village of Merkushinsk. He traveled between villages and sewed clothing without charge, particularly for poor people. The OCA life also describes his conversations about the Christian faith with local people. He spent solitary time fishing and contemplating creation. His remembered service joined ordinary manual work with care for neighbors. His feast on December 18 follows the linked OCA calendar; other commemorations may also appear in local calendars.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Simeon used a practical skill to help people in need. What ordinary skill could you offer freely to meet a neighbor's need?
