Saint Simeon of Pângărați
Monk, priest and abbot
Moldavia · 15th century
Feast day: September 7

A life of faith
Simeon entered Bistrița Monastery before withdrawing with two disciples beside the Pângărați stream. With help from Stephen the Great, he built a wooden church and became the first abbot of the community. People from different walks of life sought his counsel, including the ruler. During an invasion, Simeon led his disciples to safety at Cașva Monastery, where he later died.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Simeon’s example invites care for a community through both its growth and its moments of danger.
