Saint Sozon of Pompeiopolis
Martyr
Lycaonia & Pompeiopolis
Feast day: September 7

A life of faith
Sozon was a shepherd from Lycaonia. The received account says he broke a hand from an idol, sold the metal and distributed the proceeds to poor people. When the authorities began persecuting Christians to find the person responsible, he presented himself and acknowledged his action. He was tortured and died as a martyr.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Sozon accepted responsibility when others faced punishment. Consider how taking responsibility can protect someone from blame.
