A life of faith

Stratonicus saw his friend Hermylus suffering torture and wept for him. When called before Licinius, Stratonicus openly declared that he too was a Christian. He asked his friend to pray that he would remain faithful. After imprisonment and further suffering, the two were killed together in the Danube.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Stratonicus’s example invites you to stand beside a suffering friend rather than allowing fear to silence your concern.
