Saint Tabitha of Joppa
Righteous disciple
Joppa · 1st century
Feast day: October 25

A life of faith
Tabitha belonged to the Christian community in Joppa and is remembered for kindness expressed through useful work. She made garments, and the Church honors her as a patron of tailors and seamstresses. When she became ill and died, believers called Peter from nearby Lydda. The account in Acts describes his prayer and her restoration to life. Tabitha’s memory does not depend on public office or a written teaching. The garments associated with her show a life made visible in care for other people, giving dignity to the patient work of skilled hands.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Use a practical skill to ease someone’s daily burden. Repair, prepare, or make something useful, and offer the work with the quiet generosity that honors the recipient.
