A life of faith

Tamar was the daughter of George III and Burdukhan and became sovereign of Georgia in the twelfth century. Her Orthodox life remembers her giving needlework to poor people, making vestments for clergy, and supporting churches and monasteries. These acts of personal work and generosity accompany the account of her public responsibilities. The Georgian Orthodox Church honors her as a righteous queen. Her commemoration in the OCA calendar falls on May 1.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Tamar combined personal work with generosity. Consider how a skill you already practice could provide something useful for another person or your church community.
