Saint Teilo of Llandaff
Bishop and monastic founder
South Wales and Brittany · 6th century
Feast day: February 9

A life of faith
Teilo is remembered as a Welsh bishop and founder of Llandeilo Fawr, a center of monastic life and learning. Later accounts connect his training with Dyfrig and his friendship with David of Wales. Tradition also associates him with a monastic school at Llandaff and with travel to Brittany during an outbreak of plague. His foundations gathered disciples and linked communities across south Wales. Churches in Wales and Brittany preserve his name, though the surviving account of his life was written centuries after his death.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
