A life of faith

Thallelaios came from a Christian family in Lebanon and studied medicine under a physician named Makarios. The traditional life places his arrest at Aegae in Cilicia, where he openly confessed his faith before the prefect. He endured attempts to force him to abandon Christ and was eventually killed. The Church remembers him not only for martyrdom but also for treating sick people without payment. He is invoked among the unmercenary physicians in prayers for the sick. His commemoration brings medical learning, freely offered care, and Christian steadfastness into the same remembered life.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Remember people training for caring professions. Offer encouragement and practical support, while respecting the competence and boundaries that safe care requires.
