A life of faith

Theoctistus lived in the Judean desert with Euthymius the Great. As disciples gathered around them, the two founded a monastic community. Theoctistus remained as its abbot while Euthymius returned to solitude. He died in 467, and the patriarch of Jerusalem attended his funeral.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
