Saint Theodore the Sykeote
Bishop and monastic
Galatia · 6th–7th centuries
Feast day: April 22

A life of faith
Theodore grew up at Sykeon in Galatia and showed an early devotion to prayer and to George the martyr. He received ordination while young and later entered monastic life during a pilgrimage to Palestine. Back near his home, a community formed around him, and many people sought prayer and help. The OCA life remembers his arranging a supply of bread for the people fed at the monastery. He eventually became bishop of Anastasiopolis, but the responsibilities weighed on his desire for solitude. After seeking release, he returned to monastic ministry. His memory combines prayer with care for a growing community.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Join prayer to practical provision. Ask what a group actually needs today, and offer useful help without assuming that greater public responsibility is always your own calling.
