Saint Theogenes of Parium
Martyr
Parium on the Hellespont
Feast day: January 2

A life of faith
Later Orthodox accounts remember Theogenes as a bishop of Parium; accounts of his role differ. Under Licinius, he refused an order to abandon his ministry and Christian faith and enter military service. He was imprisoned and later drowned. The account says he asked for time to pray before his death, around 320. Christians recovered his body and buried him near the city walls.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
