Saint Theosebia the Deaconess
Deaconess
Cappadocia · 4th century
Feast day: January 10

A life of faith
Theosebia is remembered in the OCA life as a deaconess from the family of Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, and Peter of Sebaste. Her service included caring for sick people, giving food to those without secure shelter, raising orphans, and helping women prepare for baptism. She also accompanied Gregory of Nyssa during his exile and shared the hardship of his journeys. Gregory the Theologian praised her after her death. Although the surviving account is brief, its details place her ministry among concrete human needs and the practical work through which a church community receives and supports people.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
