Saint Thomas the Apostle
Apostle & martyr
Galilee & India · 1st century
Feast day: October 6

A life of faith
Thomas followed Christ as one of the Twelve, but initially struggled to accept the other disciples’ report of the Resurrection. When the risen Lord appeared and showed his wounds, Thomas answered with a confession of Christ as his Lord and God. The Church remembers the apostle for the faith that followed that encounter, not only for the uncertainty that preceded it. Tradition connects his missionary work especially with India and honors his martyrdom there. Thomas’s story gives honest questions a place within discipleship while inviting the questioner toward trust and an active response.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
