Saint Timothy of Ephesus
Apostle & bishop
Lystra & Ephesus · 1st century
Feast day: January 22

A life of faith
Timothy grew up in Lystra, with the faith of his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois forming an important part of his story. He became Paul’s disciple, coworker, and trusted companion in preaching the Gospel. Paul’s letters remember his fidelity and encourage him to teach through both words and conduct. The Church honors Timothy as Bishop of Ephesus and remembers his death as a martyr. His example shows how guidance received in a family and from a spiritual teacher can mature into responsibility for others, carried with patience, loyalty, and practical care.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Remember a lesson you received from a faithful teacher. Put that lesson into practice today, and offer someone less experienced encouragement that is patient, specific, and dependable.
