A life of faith

Uar was a soldier in Egypt who had kept his Christian faith private. After Christian teachers were imprisoned, he joined the surviving prisoners and appeared before the judge. The calendar remembers him openly acknowledging that he was Christian and suffering martyrdom.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Uar’s remembrance invites reflection on the moment a privately held conviction calls for a public response.
