Saint Vasile of Poiana Mărului
Monk and teacher
Poiana Mărului, Buzău Mountains
Feast day: April 25

A life of faith
Vasile came from the Poltava region and eventually settled at Dălhăuți, where he led a growing community of monks. With disciples, he founded the skete at Poiana Mărului in the Buzău Mountains. The official calendar remembers him as an experienced teacher of prayer whose community became a place of spiritual training. His pupils continued the monastic tradition he had helped cultivate.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Vasile’s example invites steady spiritual learning within a community rather than relying on enthusiasm alone.
