Saint Veronica of Paneas
Righteous Woman
Paneas
Feast day: July 12

A life of faith
Orthodox tradition gives the name Veronica, or Bernice, to the woman healed of a long illness after touching Christ's garment. The Gospel narratives describe twelve years of bleeding, unsuccessful treatment, and her decision to approach Jesus through the crowd. When he asked who had touched him, she came forward and told him what had happened. Christ addressed her as a daughter and sent her away in peace. Later tradition connects her with Paneas and a commemorative image of the Savior. Her commemoration remembers trust, gratitude, and the restoration of a person whose suffering had lasted for years.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Bring long-standing burdens into prayer without shame. Veronica's commemoration remembers a person Christ addressed with dignity and a gratitude that continued after her encounter.
