Saint Victor of Damascus
Martyr
Damascus
Feast day: November 11

A life of faith
Victor was a soldier who openly confessed Christianity when ordered to sacrifice to the gods. His received life recounts that he prayed for the soldiers who were struck blind before him. Stephanida publicly encouraged him during his suffering. Victor was eventually beheaded at Damascus.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Victor’s prayer for the blinded soldiers invites reflection on mercy toward people who stand on the other side of a conflict.
