Saint Yaropolk Peter of Volhynia
Blessed Prince
Volhynia and Kiev
Feast day: November 22

A life of faith
Yaropolk Izyaslavich, baptized Peter, was the son of Prince Izyaslav and grandson of Yaroslav the Wise. The OCA life records diplomatic journeys undertaken for his father to Poland, the German emperor, and Rome. He began construction of a church dedicated to Saint Peter at Saint Demetrius Monastery. A retainer murdered him in 1086, and he was buried in Kiev. The surviving account reviewed for this entry is brief; it does not establish a detailed personality assessment or justify quiz matching.
The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.
A reflection
Yaropolk's church building can prompt reflection on supporting a community's worship. The short surviving account leaves many questions about his life unanswered.
