A life of faith

Zephaniah prophesied in Judah during the reign of Josiah. The Romanian calendar connects his memory with the three-chapter prophetic book that bears his name. The book warns against idolatry, calls the people to repentance, and speaks of their return from captivity. His commemoration invites readers to attend to both the warning and hope in the prophetic writings.

The Eastern Orthodox Church remembers saints in prayer and commemoration. Their lives offer examples for Christians learning to live their faith.

A reflection

Read a short passage from Zephaniah slowly. Notice what the passage asks its hearers to change, and where the passage offers hope.
